Terrified of signing a year lease & living with a stranger? Me, too. Let's mitigate the risk with a 3-month trial run.
I'm renting the spare bedroom in my 3BR/1BA fourth floor walk-up apartment (no elevator). The room is 11' x 9' with 10' ceilings. It is furnished with a twin loft bed + mattress, air conditioner, small desk, desk chair, leather chair, and bookcase. (If you are shorter than 5'7" you will easily be able to walk under the loft bed, and sit up in bed because the ceilings are so high.)
The Clinton Hill apartment is a few blocks away from the Pratt Art Institute, lots of great restaurants, coffee shops, health-food stores, all the amenities. Plus, all the great neighborhoods that make Brooklyn so appealing are within walking distance: Ft. Greene, Prospect Heights, Park Slope and Prospect Park, Bedford-Stuyvesant. There's a grocery store, pharmacy, health food store, bakery, drop-off laundry at the dry cleaners all within ONE BLOCK. It's a great neighborhood on a beautiful, tree-lined street very close to trains. I've lived in the building since 2010 and any one who has come to visit appreciates the abundance of natural light and good vibes cultivated via clear communication and mutual respect.
Transportation to downtown Manhattan in 20 minutes -- just a 3-minute walk to the C train at Clinton-Washington, 8 minutes to the G train, and 15 minutes to Atlantic terminal (L I R R, B, Q, 2, 3, 4, 5).
You'll be sharing the apartment with me, my teen, and our cats. Both the kid and I have a super sensitive sense of smell, so you will never smell the litter box; and we hope to never smell you! You will be expected to practice good personal hygiene and clean up after yourself.
I work from home but am away quite a bit and the teen lives half the time with the other parent. The ideal subletter will be self-aware, clean, polite and a good communicator. Bonus points if you love cats.
The monthly rent is $1,500; utilities are split 3 ways. Three month trial period and if it's a good fit, we can discuss moving forward with a longer term lease or go month-to-month.
I grew up in California but have lived in NYC for nearly 30 years; in this building for about half that time. Between working full-time from home and raising my kid part-time (50/50 custody), I spend some weekends upstate. It is tremendously important that home is a clean, peaceful and tranquil space.
When we are home, we are usually reading, relaxing, watching TV, homework, or resting deeply.
Longtime LGBT+ ally, meditator, sober Buddhist, I'm friendly but am usually running late, so I don't always have a lot of time to chat. Super important that subletter is independent, resourceful & have a full life outside of the home.
