Historic guest house of the Cragsmoor Old Inn - this house is our sanctuary from the busy city. Large and full of completely unique charm, this is a great home for a family, couple or individual looking for a comfortable and semi-secluded upstate New York getaway. An hour and a half from the GW Bridge, 45 min from New Paltz and 5min from Minnewaska State Park. We have a wood stove, projector and two big corner sofas for cozy living in the winter. The house feels like a home with brand new kitchen appliances, old antique decor, quirks (eg. hallway shagged carpets), a library and plants everywhere. The house is on a dirt road with hikes nearby and lovely neighbors (including a Buddhist retreat behind our forest).
Winter weather means renters must be confident driving up dirt roads in snow/ice.

We are a couple in our 40s. I work in the music business and Joshua owns an animal behavior consultant company. We like exploring outdoors as much as we enjoy discovering new urban centers full of art and expression. We are both from the Pacific Northwest originally (me: Vancouver / Joshua: Portland) but have both been in New York for many years. We love traveling comfortably and for us that means staying in homes rather than hotels. We have a 6 year old and a 6 month old and will be traveling to Japan to see grandparents this Spring. We have an apartment in BK and this home that we use weekly. We don’t want to list our house on a traditional rental platform because we feel it’s impersonal and doesn’t foster creative bartering for aligned interests.
We are looking for weekly or monthly renters this winter/ Spring while we take our new baby to meet family abroad. The house is not a turnkey vacation rental, but a loved home that we have historically only allowed home exchanges and close friends to make use of. For this reason, we are looking for renters who can provide either a) a home exchange or vacation rental site profile with reviews and/or b) a reference letter from a landlord. We will conduct a phone call or a convenient meet-up for prospective renters. Deposit, IDs, and signing of a short contract will be needed to confirm the rental.
The weekly fee includes cleaning to get it rental-ready with clean sheets, etc.
We are happy to discuss a discounted fee for:
1. Renters who want to do a monthly rental through April and will treat the house like a home.
2. Short-term rental caretakers that can commit to taking care of some maintenance and reduce our costs (eg, can bring their own sheets, water plants, haul garbage/bury compost/clear snow from porch, etc).
Happy to host dog or cats. Both must be potty trained and carefully watched for our area has bears, foxes, and other critters that city pets might not have the right instincts for.
