The Future Perfect Project (FPP) is a progressive, queer led, LGBTQ+ centered nonprofit dedicated to amplifying the voices of the next generation at the intersection of art, activism, and community. We encourage our staff and network to bring their authentic selves to the table, and we create spaces where creativity and truth-telling flourish.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Executive Director to steward and evolve FPP’s role as a national leader in arts programming and youth-first pedagogy. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who is passionate about empowering queer youth and advancing cultural change through the arts and media.

ROLE DETAILS
- Title: Executive Director
- Salary: $88,000 (fixed salaried, exempt) + health insurance benefit + possible bonus
- Schedule: 32 hours/week (full-time), Monday–Thursday or Monday–Friday, within EST business hours. Starting January 2026 or February 2026.
- Location: Remote, with 5-10% annual travel required to New York state.
- PTO: Approximately 20 days of PTO a year

As Executive Director, you will provide public-facing leadership and executive management within FPP’s model of shared leadership. You will serve as an anchor, collaborating closely with the Board of Directors, Youth Advisory Council, Director of Operations, and Artistic Director to set the vision, ensure financial sustainability, and strengthen infrastructure. This requires balancing collective input and the diverse strengths of the entire team and with effective and strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will bring both strategic rigor and heartfelt leadership, with the skills to balance organizational management and community engagement. This position requires not only experience in nonprofit leadership and administration, but also a deep commitment to FPP’s mission of uplifting and amplifying young LGBTQ+ voices.

The ideal candidate will bring:
- A strong background in nonprofit leadership, arts administration, or organizational management
- Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, managing development strategy, and building long-term donor and institutional relationships
- Proven ability to build, lead, and inspire teams within a collaborative culture grounded in authenticity and transparent communication, specifically embracing a model of shared leadership and distributed power
- Familiarity with arts and media production, paired with a deep commitment to supporting and advocating for LGBTQ+ youth voices
- The capacity to balance big-picture vision with the demands of day-to-day operational excellence

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3-4 years of nonprofit leadership, arts/media management, or equivalent executive-level experience
- Ability to balance collaborative leadership with decisive action, honoring both executive responsibility and organizational values of dialogue, shared strengths, and collective input
- Familiarity with arts and media production preferred (music, theater, podcasting, creative writing, or related fields)
- Experience in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grants management or demonstrated experience in similar relationship building capacities
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and forecasting
- Proven ability to supervise staff and contractors while fostering collaborative teams
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Deep commitment to and understanding of LGBTQ+ communities, particularly queer youth
- Ability to travel 4–8 times per year to New York State
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident who is legally able to work in the U.S.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

🧭 Organizational Leadership
- Develop and implement FPP’s next strategic plan to ensure long-term financial sustainability within an increasingly competitive market.
- Establish and maintain the organization’s strategic plans, evaluating and improving systems and programs in collaboration with key team members
- Ensure that all programs, budgets, and spending align with mission and organizational priorities.
- Alongside key team members, synthesize team and contractors’ feedback to guide organizational growth

💰 Development & Fundraising
- As the organization’s chief fundraiser, the Executive Director will lead all development efforts to ensure FPP’s long-term financial sustainability and growth.
- Drive the organization’s financial growth through diversified fundraising strategies, major gifts, and institutional partnerships
- Cultivate and steward relationships with key donors, funders, and philanthropic partners
- Lead fundraising to sustain and grow the annual budget, with an aspirational goal of increasing from $500K to $1M by 2028
- Oversee and approve all grant proposals prior to submission, ensuring alignment with mission and strategic priorities

📊 Financial Oversight
- Provide executive oversight of the organization’s finances, including budget management, accounting, and bank operations, in collaboration with the Director of Operations and Program Directors
- Ensure fiscal responsibility and financial transparency across all organizational activities
- Collaborate with the Board and Admin Team to approve the annual organizational budget

🤝 External Relations & Advocacy
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the Board of Directors, attending all meetings and delivering Executive Reports
- Serve as primary liaison to key external development consultants
- Serve as FPP’s primary public representative, attending key events and advocating for the visibility of LGBTQ+ youth voices and the organization’s mission
- Expand public awareness and visibility of FPP’s residencies, works, and projects

🧩 Programs & Projects
- Provide executive oversight of all FPP programs, ensuring alignment with mission, vision, and budget
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director and staff to strengthen current programs and forecast future initiatives
- Serve as the official point of contact for new program-related partnerships and relationships

🫶 Team Management
- ​The Executive Director will lead within a team of 5 people (6 total including ED).
- Oversee weekly workload and workflow for staff, contractors, and interns
- Facilitate administrative and team meetings, ensuring agendas are prepared and goals are clear
- Guide the planning and facilitation of team retreats that align vision, budget, and project goals while fostering authentic team connection
- Co-facilitate the Youth Advisory Council in partnership with the Artistic Director and Director of Operations

📣 Engagement & Visibility
- Guide organizational strategy for branding, marketing, and public visibility in collaboration with the Marketing Director
- Oversee strategies to strengthen participant and audience engagement across programs and platforms

The Future Perfect Project is a 501(c)(3) national arts organization amplifying the voices of LGBTQIA+ youth across the United States through high-quality creative programming and professional artistic mentorship (ages 13–22). By producing and facilitating in-person and remote programs in podcasting, music, creative writing, and more, we provide young people with queer-affirming spaces and professional tools to express themselves authentically, connect with others, and share their vision of a better future for us all, one in which everyone is free to be themselves.

Since 2017, we have produced over 100 in-person writing workshops, two full-length albums, an original podcast, a series of animated shorts, two comic superhero short films, an online interview series, live performances, and we have encouraged the creativity of thousands of queer young people around the country.
