I am looking for a full time studio assistant.
Must have prior experience with ceramics, welding armatures, basic power tools, mold making and casting. Flame working is a plus, but not necessary.
Duties will include welding armatures, making silicone molds and casting in concrete/aqua resin (not toxic resins), running and upkeep of the ceramic kilns. Cleaning sink traps, ordering supplies, etc. Organizing and setting up a studio will be our first project. We just finished the build out and I am terrible at organizing. I want to find an assistant who can set up the shop and help me keep it in order.
I consider the studio to be a sacred space. I want an assistant who is respectful of that time and space. Easygoing, upbeat person with a good sense of humor. Someone can work well with others, who can work quietly, keep things organized and clean. Attention to detail is important. Able to lift/move 50lbs.
Pay will be set by experience and skill set. We will hire as an employee with benefits, vacation and sick days and health plan options. Hours Monday-Friday, 10-6 (flexible time but not days). 60 day trial after hire. Position open until filled.
Thank you!
Monica
I am an artist who primarily makes mixed media sculpture. Most recently I have been flame working and hand building ceramics. A lot of my process relies heavily on mold making and casting. I am currently working on large scale, intricate concrete sculptures.
My husband and I moved upstate from Brooklyn a few years ago. We built studios on our farm in Salisbury Mills, NY. I’m looking to hire a full time assistant for my sculpture studio and to help out in a shared studio. You will work along side of me and also independently.
I am very sensitive to toxins, so I try to keep a safe studio, steering clear of resins, foams and other toxic materials.
