This is a unique loft space, in an historic landmark building, located on a quiet street that feeds into a lovely small park. Once the rectory for the 19th century church next door, this 6-floor residence has been modernized to include an elevator and air-conditioning and is protected by 24-hour doorman security. The apartment has two bedrooms and 2 baths, with 12’ ceilings, and a loft space over the kitchen and ‘primary’ bedroom. The large living room area has windows facing both east and west, so we get both morning and afternoon light. There is a long entry hallway, lined with books, and the two bedrooms are on opposites sides of the house, so there is a great deal of privacy for both people.

The available room is fully furnished, with its own full bathroom, wood floors and plenty of daylight. The room has a desk, a dresser and two bookshelves as well as an upright piano, and a mini fridge. As pictured, the bed set-up offers two sleeping options: a full-sized futon on the floor in the lower level of raised bunk bed, and a single mattress on the upper level. (See photos) This was my son's bedroom. (All books have been removed from the shelves since these photos were taken). Desk and dresser drawers have been emptied and there is also closet space. Appliances and amenities: The kitchen has a dishwasher and there is a washer/dryer unit as well. Rent includes, electricity, weekly cleaning service and access to a range of cable streaming channels. I’m happy to share the TV in the living room.

About the neighborhood: Just a few blocks from Union Square, a major subway hub and shopping area. Walking distance from NYU, SVA, Parsons, The New School, and Baruch. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods nearby along with plenty of restaurants, bookstores and movie theatres.

The vibe here is chill, zen, quiet and focused. This is an ideal rental for a graduate student or writer. I've had many roommates here over the years, and am happy to hang out and share the living room space for co-working. It's also fine if you prefer your space. This is a 420 friendly home, but please no cigarette smoking or wild parties. Just be sure you are open to a cute little dog who loves company!

About me: I’m a former Communication and Media Studies professor, now working in the newly emerging field of Digital Wellness, helping young people to develop healthy technology habits, and also serving as an academic tutor. Among my interests: meditation, yoga, house music festivals, philosophy and Buddhism. My son, age 23, did his undergraduate degree in Astronomy and a master's degree in Earth and Atmospheric Science, both at Cornell. He is now living in Brooklyn. We are both big fans of Star Trek, Star Wars. Dr. Who and Dune. We have an adorable little Shih Tzu, named Appa (from Avatar the Last Airbender), who is very friendly and loves people.
