This special garden home in Pleasure Point is an oasis of comfort and joy in a wonderful walking neighborhood, convenient to coffee shops, restaurants, UCSC and one of the best surfing spots in Santa Cruz.
It has a beautifully landscaped private fenced-in yard with patio, deck, spacious hot tub and outdoor shower. The interior of our one-story home contains tasteful furnishings and many artistic touches. It has been the treasured home-away-from-home of many visiting academics and researchers during the school year.
The oversized primary bedroom suite has an office area and California king-sized bed. It opens onto a patio through french doors framed by an exuberant rose arbor. There is a large walk-in closet with plenty of hanging space and drawers. The primary bathroom has a soaking tub, large custom shower with bench, and double vanity. A washer and dryer are conveniently located in the nearby hallway.
The kitchen features a gas range, stainless refrigerator and dishwasher, a full complement of cookware, food prep appliances, and utensils. The dining table seats up to 8. The living room has a 50' TV with Roku to stream your favorite shows and movies.
There is a full-sized bed in the second bedroom and 2 twin beds in the third bedroom. The twins are easily converted into a king, if required. Or we can remove one or both of the beds to create a light-filled office space for stays of 6 months or longer. The second bathroom has a tub and shower.
When you walk through the front gate you'll feel right at home! The fenced-in yard is nicely landscaped and surrounded by mature trees, giving it plenty of privacy. Evenings are a perfect time for a quiet soak in the outdoor hot tub.
A leisurely 3 block walk to East Cliff Drive leads to a sheltered beach during low tide, and several prime surfing spots. Several excellent restaurants and cafes are within walking distance. UCSC can be reached by car in less than 20 minutes. The driveway accommodates up to three cars; a luxury in a neighborhood with limited street parking. There's even a private Level 2 EV charger for your use!
NOTE: Our home is currently not available until late August 2026. Our tenants typically stay for the entire school year, with a signed lease 6-9 months in advance. We can be somewhat flexible with the start and end dates, though our rate during the summer months is higher.
We are a couple who live within 10 minutes of the house. Alex is an artist, and Janine studies Tibetan Buddhism. We've had great luck over the past several years renting to couples and small families during the school year. Most have been academics on sabbatical or professionals relocating to the area. We typically rent the house as a short-term vacation rental during the high-demand summer months.
Following an online or in-person meeting, we conduct the usual credit and reference check. A $3,000 security deposit is required upon lease signing, with first and last month rent payable prior to move-in. The cost of gas and electric are not included in the rent, but we do offer a $150/month credit against this cost. Fiber optic high speed WiFi, water and garbage are included at no additional cost.
We do allow trained and well-mannered dogs. Dogs should not be left unattended for more than a few hours at a time, and must be kept indoors when not attended. An additional deposit of $300/dog is required.
