H! I'm Niamh and I'm renting one of the bedrooms in my gorgeous, pre-war 3 bedroom apartment. The room is huge at 16' x 12' and is fully furnished and decorated with a queen sized bed, full sofa, antique chifferobe, desk/vanity, 50" TV with roku, nightstand and other odds and ends and comes with a hall closet.
The entire apartment is perennially sun-filled and has 9' high ceilings, hardwood floors and picture frame molding for a really expansive and luxurious feel. Kitchen, vestibule/dining area and bathroom are shared.
The Broadyke Apartments is a beautifully maintained historic building with an elevator, laundry room on site, full time staff, and an entrance through a lovely private courtyard filled with flowers, birdsong and the friendliest of neighbors.
The A express train stop is about 10 feet from the building entrance and will get you to midtown in about 25 minutes. The 1 also stops a couple of blocks away, and the M1 stops across the street.
If you don't know Inwood, it's the best kept secret in New York. Beautiful tree lined streets full of art deco architecture, families on their way to the playgrounds and community gardens, Fort Tryon Park is right across the street, with the Met Cloisters inside, where the Met's medieval collection is housed in an abbey like setting. Also across the street is a 24 hour grocery store and the newest library in the city. Within a couple of blocks is Inwood Hill Park - the only place in Manhattan where you can hike through ancient forests, the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum where you can learn about the early inhabitants of the area, and a marina where you can sit on the dock and watch the Hudson. Nowhere else in the city will you find the combination of convenience, amenities, proximity to transportation, beauty, art and nature. All while 20 minutes to Columbia or the UWS, 25 to midtown and 35 to the West Village.
You'll be sharing the apartment with:
1. Me, Niamh (rhymes with Steve) - a friendly introverted native New Yorker in her 30s, who spends most of her time either out enjoying the neighborhood, quietly in my room, or engrossed in a book via noise cancelling earphones, but is always prepared to share pictures of the cute animals I've seen in the parks lately. I have a circadian rhythm disorder that means I'm up at all hours, so deep sleepers will be the best fit here.
2. My wonderful roommate Annalisa, a young filmmaker from Germany who works an internship downtown during the day and is very friendly and conscientious when home.
& 3. My absurdly friendly German Shepherd Lila. If you want a dog friend without any of the responsibility, boy are you in luck. If you play with her one time, she will show you true devotion. However if you're allergic or afraid of dogs, I'm afraid you won't be happy here, she does bark occasionally at outside noises and it's a big dog bark. No other pets unfortunately.
I am looking for women and/or queer roommates, who are
1. either vegan or willing to forgo cooking or heating meat, eggs or seafood in the apartment,
2. will be reliably outside of the apartment during the weekday,
3. are willing to contribute to household chores like deep cleaning and stocking the common areas,
4. can be conscientious about noise - noise inside bedrooms is fine, but no slamming doors or talking on speakerphone or playing loud videos in the common areas, and
5. can take requests or adjustments around those things or any unexpected things that come up with grace, flexibility, and mutual respect.
