Available March 1
A thoughtfully renovated one-bedroom garden apartment with a passthrough workspace nook, located on a historic, tree-lined stretch of Bergen Street between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues. The apartment is furnished and has its own private ground-floor entry and is part of a two-family Brooklyn townhouse that is well maintained.
The layout feels calm and spacious, with southern exposure from the bay windows and generous proportions for a garden-level home. The kitchen and bathroom are modern, while the rest of the apartment reflects the character and original details of a 135-year-old townhouse.

Lighting
The natural light is better than what you’d expect from a garden apartment in a townhouse. With southern exposure and five windows (three in front, two in back), the apartment does receive daylight throughout the day. It isn’t flooded with light like an upper floor, but it’s far from dark.
We added thoughtful, custom lighting to create a warm ambient feel in the evenings and on overcast days, so the space always feels comfortable. The tradeoff for being on the garden level is direct access to the backyard, which is blazing light and hot for 8-9 months a year.
Building
This is an owner-occupied two-family townhouse. The apartment is owner-managed, and we can be reached easily when needed. There is no elevator. Inside, the apartment is on one-level.
The home was renovated with an emphasis on low resource use, including WaterSense fixtures, ENERGY STAR appliances, induction cooking, and all-LED lighting. Original materials were preserved where possible, with low-VOC finishes used throughout. Composting and non-toxic cleaning and pest-control practices are supported on site.
Security
Keyless apartment door entry, video doorbell, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and window guards.
Location
One block from a great community spot at Brower Park, with a small public library branch, close to cafés, groceries at Super Foodtown, older amenities on Nostrand and Fulton. Trendier amenities on Franklin . Bergen Street has a full-length bike lane. Walkscore give a rating of 91 of 100 with 100 of 100 for transit.
Transit access includes:
* C train at Kingston-Throop Avenues
* A/C train at Nostrand Avenue
* B65 Bus to Downtown Brooklyn on corner
* 3 train at Kingston / Eastern Parkway
* Long Island Railroad at Nostrand Avenue
JFK Airport is approximately 10 miles away, about a 35-minute drive without traffic. This is an honest walk to the faster express lines, which adds time to a Manhattan commute. If you prefer to be early, stop for coffee, or want buffer for delays, it’s safest to plan on about an hour to anything above mid-town.
Lease terms
Preference for longer-term tenants, but open to shorter term.
Tenants have loved this home and our previous resident stayed for years. Best for someone wanting a comfortable, cared-for, personal-feeling home.
Our current tenant is moving into a larger apartment in our property in the same neighborhood.
We are a working couple who met while studying design and architecture in Rotterdan. We live upstairs and will show the apartment ourselves. We've used the listing project for what seems like 10 years now, ever since we lived in a converted church in Redhook.
