Hi, I’m Matt. I’ve lived in our apartment on Clinton Avenue in Clinton Hill for nearly ten years.
Two bedrooms are becoming available in mid-August, and I’m offering them as a single private suite: two generously sized rooms (approximately 16’ x 12’ each) connected by a Jack-and-Jill bathroom that would be yours exclusively. Both rooms have hardwood floors, good natural light, and closets. One room features white walls throughout; the other has a beautiful hand-applied leafy wallpaper accent wall with soft off-white on the remaining walls, a lovely detail left by a previous tenant who took real pride in the space. Use the second room however suits your life — a home office, a studio, a guest room, a reading room. The private bathroom is a rarity in shared living, and the price reflects it. The rooms are unfurnished.
We’re on the top floor of a beautiful pre-war six-story building, which means great views, wonderful light, and no noise from upstairs neighbors. The building has 25 units, a working elevator, and our superintendent lives on-site in the basement apartment. There are three steps at the building entrance; please reach out if you have accessibility questions.
The common spaces are warm, intentional, and well-maintained. The living room was thoughtfully redesigned a few years ago — new furniture, art, and plants — and has a cohesive aesthetic we’re proud of. The kitchen is large by NYC standards, fully equipped with a gas range, dishwasher, microwave, and some cabinet storage. (If you’d be bringing lots of kitchenware, let’s talk about it first.) We have a housekeeper who comes every month or two to deep-clean the common spaces and bathrooms, so nobody’s managing a chore chart or stewing over who skipped their turn to mop the living room floor. That said, we all pull our weight and do the basics to keep the space tidy between cleanings.
The apartment culture is calm, independent, and considerate. We’re not a big party house (maybe just a few low key parties each year), and we’re not strangers tolerating each other — think co-living for people who have full lives outside the apartment but genuinely enjoy coming home. Your housemates will be me and Nick, a young professional who travels frequently. (We may have one more roommate join us for the fall on the other end of the apt.) Guests are welcome and encouraged; we just ask that extended stays be discussed in advance. No pets.
The neighborhood: The C train is a one-minute walk; the G is three minutes; Atlantic Terminal (B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, 5, LIRR) is ten minutes on foot. No laundry in building but there’s a wonderful family-owned wash-and-fold a block away with same-day service and delivery. Bike storage is available in the building courtyard. Fort Greene Park is nearby, as are some of Brooklyn’s best restaurants, cafes, and bars. And the block itself — as the photos suggest — is something special in every season.
I’m Matt (he/him). I’ve lived in Clinton Hill since 2016 and in this apartment for nearly all of that time. I’m a longtime member of Brooklyn Track Club, a voracious New York Times reader, an amateur cocktail enthusiast, an accomplished world traveler, and an occasional dinner party host. I work in office 5 days a week as a designer at a firm in Manhattan. I care a lot about this apartment — I’ve painted more walls, doors and baseboards than I can count, helped redesign the common spaces, and tried to build something that actually feels like a home rather than just a place to sleep. I’m in my mid-30s. I’m independent but genuinely invested in the people I live with, and I try to lead by example when it comes to keeping the space clean, respectful, considerate, and peaceful. I’m looking for someone who feels the same way.
$2,300/month for the full suite. Rent stabilized unit. Available mid-August (exact date tbd, and flexible).
Utilities are not included in the rent. Each month I track and divide the shared costs — electric, gas, and internet — proportionally among housemates, and send a reimbursement request. We also share the cost of our housekeeper, every month or two. These additional costs are modest and divided fairly.
Move-in requirements: first month’s rent plus a security deposit equal to one month’s rent. Proof of income and a credit check are requested. References welcome.
Pending a first interview by phone, I’ll be happy to arrange an in-person showing next month. Reach out and tell me a bit about yourself, where you’re coming from, and what you’re looking for.
-Matt
