the vision:
a part-time third space with the focus of building a community of herbalists, foragers, earth centered people, artists, musicians, thinkers, freaks, etc. to gather, exchange ideas, deepen our practices, and learn from each other. i plan to host semi-frequent gatherings including: study groups, shared dinners, occasional workshops and other small gatherings focused on (you guessed it) herbalism, but also music and whatever else we’re into at the moment. I’m also planning to host consultations with clients at the apartment, and would coordinate about privacy accommodations. ample peace and quiet time is also important to me & would be prioritized in between gatherings.
who i’m looking for:
I’m looking for someone who shares my vision and wants to collaborate to build something special together. preferably someone who i can learn from/with - whether they’re also an herbalist, some other kind of knowledgeable plant person, or a holistic medicine practitioner/bodyworker (Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, etc.). preferably someone who is actively creating art, music, writing, or some kind of craft. preferably someone who has some kind of interest or experience with gathering people or community organizing. someone who also leads with curiosity and grace and is excited to learn new things. someone who also likes to cook and share meals. someone who is also a doer and likes to help people. someone who is preferably also queer.
(while I do greatly prefer to live with another plant person, I am open to non-herbalist creative/crafty people who support my vision if it feels right.)
apartment specifics:
- rent: $1,650 per room + electric & wifi (rent has to be paid in cash)
- move-in sometime in september (pro-rated)
you’d have to pass a credit report, provide proof of income & would be signing onto a year long lease (no subletting allowed)
-on a quiet street in ridgewood a short walk from the forest ave m stop, other people’s clothes & hellbender
- railroad style
- newly renovated w/ a bathtub
- backyard w/ space & sun for gardening (lets go off w the plants)
- coin washer & dryer in the basement
- the place is honestly a gem - only weird thing is that the entrance to the yard is through the back bedroom
roommate dynamics/ house vibe:
In my last house I fell into a leadership type role because I was the only one who took initiative to maintain the apartment and build systems for replenishing supplies, doing chores, and keeping the house running. In this new space I’m looking for a collaborator who also takes initiative (emphasis on a DOER), and for the responsibilities to be equally shared. Together we can write up house agreements & a chore schedule to hold ourselves and each other accountable so that we maintain the flow and hygiene of the space. When conflict arises I do my best to approach with curiosity and grace, have direct open discussion, and figure out how to move forward together. (I’ve been growing a lot in this arena lately). Passive aggression, conflict aversion, and resentment have no place here. My top needs from the people I live with are: do your dishes and tell the truth :^)
Also - I’m a big time nester (sue me i’m a taurus lol) and will prob go off with decorating and fill our space with a lot of items.
other things i’m looking for:
help feeding marcy and cleaning her litter while i’m upstate for school (1 weekend a month), if i’m occasionally held up, or am otherwise travelling. I have close friends who live nearby (my bandmate is literally a block away) so you’ll have back-up.
planting and maintaining a garden (& compost?) in the backyard together
watering the houseplants if i’m away (ngl there’s alot)
help moving my car if i’m travelling without it (you’d be able to use it and would also have backup from other friends)
only using non-toxic natural cleaning supplies and cookware
It would also be sweet to share meals (like prepping big soups & stews in fall & winter) and buy bulk food, herbs, or other supplies together to lessen the costs. Emphasis on organic and local produce & meat. I can stop by farms when I’m upstate for school, and i also have a costco membership (I’m not opposed to the occasional $1:50 hot dog lol :^)
If the thought of living with me and bringing this vision of gathering people and building community to fruition excites you please reach out & share a bit about yourself so we can discuss more in depth!
Thanks for reading & I hope to hear from you!

about me:
i’m rox - a 29yo nonbinary (they/them) clinical herbalism student, forager, frontman of a two piece grunge rock band, chainmailler, and cat parent who just moved into a two bedroom apt in ridgewood queens on sept 1st. I’ve been studying clinical herbalism for 2 years now (entering into my third and final year of my program this fall), and have realized that to truly internalize what i’m learning, I need to be immersed in an environment where i can live with and exchange ideas about herbs on the daily (intentional obsession? lol). I also have been wanting a space where I can comfortably host consultations, workshops, and other gatherings to further my practice as an herbalist, and start building both herbal community and my future business. I consider myself a very grounded, intentional, observant (and ngl pretty funny) person. I love to laugh, love to connect, and love to be outside. Honesty and integrity are deeply important to me. I’m sturdy, I show up for the people I care about, and I do my best to say what I mean, and then do what I say.
