The Room
Spacious bedroom available for lease takeover or short-term rental in 4BR / 2BR top floor apartment (21st floor!). The bedroom has the most breathtaking views of the city, a deep storage closest, and can easily fit a Queen or King sized bed. The bedroom is approximately 11 x 14.5 feet with a HUGE window overlooking the full length of Manhattan and most of Brooklyn. You will never get tired of these views!
The current tenant in the available room is moving to Atlanta on February 7th for his job. We are looking for someone who would want to sublet for the remainder of the lease (through Sept 30th). We are also open to shorter term stays (a couple of weeks to a few months). Because of the timing, we are flexible. He is planning to leave some of his furniture (bed, small dresser, etc.) if you need the room furnished.
The Apartment
The unit is in Parker Towers, a doorman building in Forest Hills. The apartment is huge - the largest any of us has lived in in NYC. The apartment has a huge living room, a balcony with sweeping views across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, a shared kitchen with a dishwasher, and laundry in the building. Huge common storage closets and tons of cabinets. It is a plant-filled, pet-friendly oasis in the sky and the vibes are truly excellent.
Parker Towers is a lively, dog-friendly building. The community is really special. Everyone is friendly, and there are lots of shared amenities. Multiple dog runs, community lawn, playgrounds, and party rooms. The apartment complex hosts cute events each month. There is also a decent gym in the building (for a fee). It's home to young people, old people, and families from all walks of life!
The Neighborhood
Forest Hills is a historic, walkable Queens neighborhood with great restaurants, fun bars, and all the amenities you'd need within a 5-minute walk. Trader Joes is right across the street, plus multiple other grocery stores nearby. A Target, CVS, Walgreens, Post Office, Gyms, Coffee Shops, etc are all really conveniently located. Forest Hills Stadium is just around the corner. In the summer, you can hear the concerts from the central lawn. There are several beautiful parks and the landmarked Forest Hills Gardens neighborhood to wander through.
Transit is excellent:
- 25 minutes to Midtown via the E/F express
- Connected locally via the R and M, with easy transfers to the 7 or G
- 15 minutes to Penn Station on the LIRR
- Easy access to JFK, LaGuardia, and Long Island
- Parking garage (for a monthly fee) but there is also free street parking around the neighborhood, usually pretty easy to find a spot.
Move in dates
The current tenant is moving on February 7th. You could move in any time in February either after the 7th or as early as Feb 1st if you needed (we have spare beds/living room/spare room for you to stay). Because of the timing, we are flexible.
This is a 4-bedroom apartment with 3 people, 1 dog, and 1 cat as the current residents. You'd primarily share the apartment with two mid-30s professionals.
- Christine (34F) is a postdoctoral researcher in neuroscience. Dog mom to Luna (5 year old medium-sized retriever mix, very sweet, doesn't bark).
- Ryan (35 NB, Queer) is a psychotherapist who works from home over zoom. Might make you cinnamon rolls.
Our third roommate is Fifi, an adorable senior female cat. Yes, you read that right. Fifi's mom Jin (late 30s, F), lives nearby, and subleases one of the bedrooms as a place to work during the day a few days a week. Fifi the cat lives here full-time.
This arrangement means we have essentially 3 people in a huge 4-bedroom apartment. It's pretty great. We all have a ton of space to ourselves.
The other leaseholder (32M, Christine's partner) is away on fellowship in LA this entire year. He will be back for a few weeks in August- September.
Dearest potential roommate -
You should:
-Have proof of income and demonstrated ability to pay the monthly rent.
- LQBTQ friendly
- Dog and cat friendly! While not strictly necessary, we hope you like hanging out with pets as they are both very sweet and love people.
- Be clean and courteous of common spaces. We mostly keep to ourselves but keep the kitchen and common living area tidy as a courtesy to our roommates. We are social and have the occasional guest or gathering, but mostly don't bring the party home.
- Looking to rent to 1 person only.
Parker Towers is a pet-friendly building. We are open to roommates with dogs as long as they are friendly to cats.
