About the Room:
The bedroom is spacious (approx. 12x15 sq feet) with high ceilings and two large, street-facing windows. It includes a side room area, (about 5x9 ft) that could be used as a closet, office, or art space. There is also a beautiful (non-working) fireplace mantel, lots of storage space, and two closets. (My room is on the opposite side of the house, so you'll have a lot of privacy!)
About the Apartment:
Located on the 3rd floor of a 4-story walk-up. The kitchen is decent-sized, with lots of light & plants & storage space. It includes a small, cozy living room that would be almost entirely for you to use. (You could also use it for guest stays) The building is older and has its quirks, so if a draft or a bit of wear & tear is a problem, then this place probably won't suit you. The rent is a bargain for this neighborhood, so the usual NYC caveats apply (DIY for small repairs, etc.). The bathroom is shared and is small, but functional, with a full-sized tub.
About Neighborhood:
Fantastic neighborhood with all that Court, Smith, & Columbia streets have to offer right at your fingertips, as well as walking distance to Brooklyn Bridge Park, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, and Gowanus. There are lots of pretty, tree-lined streets, and the neighborhood knows how to do Halloween right! There is a Key food down the block but we are also walking distance to a Union Market, Trader Joes, and a cute, all-organic grocery 2.5 blocks away. Mazzola Bakery & Bar Bruno are just down the block. Close to Poppys, Farmacy, & Mozz Lab.
Ideal roommate/Culture of the space:
I am looking for someone mature, communicative, very clean, considerate, and thoughtful about sharing the space. Those 30s+ would probably work best. This apartment has a gentle, mellow, and spiritual vibe. It is more of a reading & relaxing style home, so if you like to host parties or have a lot of people over constantly, this space probably isn't for you. Your SO staying overnight once in a while is fine of course, and I am fine with general company friends, etc.
Please respond with a bit about yourself--what you do, how you like to live, your interests, what you're looking for in a living situation, etc.
I am a 38-year-old (she/her) decorative arts designer working in historical renovation. I'm originally from the Midwest but I've lived in Brooklyn for the past 12 years. I work from home during the week but sometimes take day trips to work on-site or in the office. I also work a second job on weekends.
When I'm not working I like to go to art galleries and events, watch documentaries, and find good restaurants. I'm interested in all things art & design, spirituality, and fitness. I also like to cook a few times a week, and try new recipes when I have time. I'm generally easygoing and friendly, but I can be quiet and introverted when working.
