Take a break in the country 4th of July weekend!
Big historical house with views over the Susquehanna river, plenty of room to spread out, AC, a great yard in a quiet neighborhood. Great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. Wifi reaches the outdoor tables (in the wisteria arbor and on the balcony) so working outside is really lovely. It's a half block from the main street of town (in a quiet historic neighborhood), so walking distance from groceries, a hardware store, a few restaurants, etc.
My dog Wallace, a 30lb wheaten terrier, needs a buddy for the weekend! (I'll be at an artist residency and my folks, who will take him the rest of the residency, are away for the 4th.)
His usual routine is 2-3 walks a day, along the levee by the river or through the neighborhoods (where he thinks there's better sniffing.) It could involve play dates with neighbor dogs if you're up for it. He gets fed twice a day and loves search games. It would also be awesome if you remember to throw a handful of food in the fish pond a few times, but they won't die if you forget. (It's good entertainment for Wallace, though, so you might enjoy it, and he might remind you.)
He doesn't love fireworks, and might sit and shake when they go off, so you being calm and relaxed is important. It would also be amazing if you know a bit about dogs, and aren't prone to shout "NO" if you don't like something....we're more of a positive reinforcement, no punishment household. He's well-trained, and I hope you'll be willing to follow simple guidelines (like not feeding him from the table).
It's possible my balcony has a good view of the fireworks over the river, but I didn't check last year (which was my first summer in the house).
If the dates don't work but you're interested in other opportunities, reach out. I'm compiling a list of folks who'd like to spend a bit of time in the country when I have art obligations he can't join. There is a studio on site that could be available during longer stays.
I'm an artist and writer who used to be a New Yorker but moved back to the town I grew up in because my work needs the landscape and I wanted lower expenses and more time to work. I have made a little paradise here, 2.5 hours from the city in central PA. I'm the contact person.
When I was working outside a lot a few years back a local roustabout used to ride his bike by and say "hi honey." When I told him not to call me honey he asked me what he should call me instead. I said he could say hello by name, or he could call me Sir. He shouted "hello Sir" and erupted into giggles every time he saw me for at least a year after that. His name is Elvis. I use she/her and they/them pronouns.
