Lead/Assist Story Educator

Job Description

Requirements
o Loves storytelling; curious, creative and spontaneous with ideas
o Strong Initiative-taking/Behavior management skills
o Enjoys being around children in diverse settings & excited to create new experiences for children
o Willing to follow a script, with some flexibility
o Creates a collaborative, inclusive atmosphere
o Highly reliable and communicative

Qualifications
o College Degree
o Self-aware and highly reflective to be able to give helpful feedback from live workshops
o 1 ½ -2 years of experience working with toddler/elementary age children in academic/extra-curricular settings
Responsibilities working with children:
o Assist lead Story Educator
o Facilitate workshops for children ages 1-12; Keep children on task with lessons
o Support and strengthen expectations and professionalism set by Lead Story Educator
o Help with the creation of materials and lessons for upcoming workshops

Responsibilities working with adults:
o Build and sustain strong relationship with colleagues
o High level of professionalism and candor
o Weekly meetings for curriculum planning, workshop preparation, and sharing reflections from workshops (over the phone or in-person meet-up)

Other Considerations:
o Theater experience/storytelling is not required, but having a willingness to learn is
o For all applicants, please be aware that the typical commitment is one semester (14 -16 weeks). Preference will be given to those willing to work in Manhattan and Brooklyn
o Willing to comply with state, local or school related CDC guidelines for working with children (i.e. fingerprinting, background check, health requirements, etc.).
o Compensation: $20-25 hour (6-8 hours per week to start)
o Seeking Candidates who are willing to work in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The mission of Scavenger Stories Learning is to provide active learning through a dynamic, multi-modal mix of expressive arts and storytelling. We integrate literacy, environmental science, history and culture within our adventures for kids. Our experiences and program series guide and engage children using sports-themed narratives, treasure hunts, choose-your-own-adventure style quests and world exploration journeys.

Tony Canty is the founder of Scavenger Stories Learning. He has worked with elementary-aged children for more than 15 years in play, social skills, and arts-based instruction. Tony is excited find other artists who share his passion of story-telling and arts education with children and families all around NYC.
