Artist Janine Antoni seeks a Studio and Retrospective Manager to join her team. They will step into a role that continues Antoni’s 30+ year career. She is looking for someone who comes with at least 2 years of experience in this area and who is excited to learn the intricacies of the studio. The person in this position will work 3 days a week in her studio and a half day remotely.
The studio’s complex operation requires someone who is reliable, consistent, and committed. Multitasking, prioritizing, and delegating are huge parts of this position. You will work closely with Antoni and her Production Manager in a supportive and
non-hierarchical manner. Antoni creates an intimate environment of open dialogue around art and is looking for someone who values that culture. Her professional practice and personal life are deeply entwined, so responsibilities will extend to personal assisting. The candidate will be keen to fully embrace all aspects of the job.
The Studio and Retrospective Manager will carry out a paid 3 month trial period in which they are trained by Antoni and the current Studio Manager.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years experience working in artist studios, galleries, museums, arts administration or curatorial programs
- Willing to give a 3-year commitment
- Available to work 3 days a week in the studio (Park Slope/ Brooklyn Army Terminal) and a half-day remotely
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability to manage others in a direct and positive manner
- A very clear and confident verbal and written communicator
- Familiarity with art world protocols and industry practices
- Personal investment in art and art history
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Antoni on levels micro (managing her daily schedule) & macro (developing and contributing to a vision for the studio)
- Work with Antoni’s galleries to manage press requests and coordinate artwork loans
- Liaise with galleries, museums, collectors, and other art world contacts
- Manage inbox and correspondences
- Oversee and maintain Antoni’s professional and personal calendars and contacts
- Maintain Antoni’s archive and artwork database
- Schedule appointments, meetings, and studio visits efficiently
- Organize studio visits, travel arrangements and artist lectures
- Oversee finances (includes budgeting and working closely with studio bookkeeper and
accountant)
- Manage online presence (social media and website)

Janine Antoni is a visual artist born in Freeport, Bahamas in 1964. She received a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA through the Rhode Island School of Design. She is known for her unusual processes. Her body is both her tool for making and the source from which her meaning arises. In each piece, no matter the medium or image, a conveyed physicality speaks directly to the viewer, giving rise to emotional states that are felt in and through the body.
Her work shows nationally and internationally. Antoni has exhibited at numerous major institutions including documenta14, at the Fridericianum, Kassel, the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, the Johannesburg Biennial, the Istanbul Biennial, and the Kwangju Biennial.
