300-sq foot studio for share. It's a big, lovely room. Two skylights but no windows. Up two short flights of stairs in a building of art studios. Well-managed. There is a shared bathroom around the corner with a large sink.
You would have half the room for your dedicated work space, and guaranteed 30+ hours of solo time in the space. Mid-afternoon, evenings, and weekends will be generally available.
I use the space for writing, home office, and solo movement (I'm a writer and choreographer.) I would use the space 2-3 days per week during school hours. I have some flexibility which days I am in there. I currently don't have internet in the space. We could hook that up, if of interest.
No toxic materials. The space is perfect for a writer, grad student, or artist working in smaller format. If you like having some open space to move, that will be bonus. I have a futon in there, which we can share.
The studio building is in an industrial part of Sunset Park. It's 3 1/2 blocks from the 45th St R station, and a bit further from the 36th N/D express stop. Great food nearby--plentiful Mexican, Yafa Cafe (coffee and Yemini food), Industry City with lots of options. Sunset Park is a welcoming, artist-filled, neighborly area. I live closeby.
I am a choreographer and writer in my 40s (she/ her.) I live locally in Sunset Park with my spouse and young child. I use the space primarily to have a home for my art practice and work life outside my small apartment. I am not fussy about the space, but I want to keep it fairly clear and tidy. I keep my archives in the space, so preserving those materials is important to me. I'd also like to be able to stop in (with notice) if I need to pick something up from the space. I'd offer the same courtesy.
The studio landlord is friendly and responsive. We've met only a couple of times.
Ideally you would make a six month commitment, or up to a year. (The lease will be up in August, so rent will go up slightly then.)
We would make an agreement about when each of us has solo access to the space. As I said above, I would need 3 weekdays, for morning and some afternoon hours.
1st month and security.
