Subletting my Sunset Park studio while I’m away at a residency. It’s been cared for and actively used by a close artist friend for the past couple years who has had some life changes and needs to leave before her sublet terms are over. We are hoping to pass it on to another artist who will enjoy the space.

* High 12.5ft ceilings + large skylight (great natural light; lights often not needed)

* Studio space 24 x 16 ft — good for painting, sculpture, installation, etc.

* Long storage closet at entry (approximately 15ft x 3ft)

* Best suited for non-toxic materials

* Price includes maintenance fee (heat, electricity, garbage)

Building & location:

* Small, active arts community (artists, animators, music producers, etc.)

* A few blocks from Industry City

* Near Art Cake, NARS Foundation, MADE NY campus

* Short walk to N / R / D trains

* Participates in Sunset Park Open Studios (featured in Hyperallergic)

* Responsive building management

Access:

* Active loading dock with off-street access

* Freight elevator to 2nd floor

* Studio on 3rd floor (stairs)

* Freight access via stair ladder (has worked well for moving bulk items)

* Slop sink around the corner, up a short flight of stairs

Timing:

About This Lister

I’m a mixed media artist working across painting, sculpture, and installation, using repurposed materials in botanically inspired abstract work. The studio has recently been used by another artist with a similarly material-focused practice. The large walls are well suited for wall-based work, and the high ceilings have allowed for inventive, large-scale pieces to be realized in the space.

The studio community is friendly and genuinely supportive—despite my being away at long-term residencies over the past couple of years, people have continued to show up for one another’s shows. The current subletter is shifting her studio needs due to personal life changes, though we remain close friends. Building management oversees several properties and has consistently been responsive and reliable whenever issues have come up.

We are both flexible on the move-in date, please reply with dates that best suit your schedule.
