Hey everybody, I have two rooms for rent in my Bushwick apartment. One is at the front of the flat and the other is at the rear. Both are nice, but overall pretty standard for older apartments in the area.
***
Room 1 (rear): The rear room has a large and a small window, fire escape access (it functions as a mini private balcony), and is around 90sq feet. $1200 per month plus utilities (electric, internet, cleaning).
Room 2 (front): The front room is the largest of the three and has two large windows providing lots of light. Plus or minus 115sq feet with high ceilings. $1325 per month plus utilities (electric, internet, cleaning).
The Apartment: The common area consists of a small kitchen, table, and living room area. We have laundry available in the basement or around the corner at the laundromat. We also have full rooftop access, which is nice for entertaining guests or growing vegetables in a container garden. We have a bookshelf, couch, and a TV in the living room, which is good for watching movies. There are also quite a few houseplants. The common spaces are fairly small, so we try to keep personal stuff in our rooms. We are on the third floor in a building without elevators, so our space is unfortunately not accessible. There is very little parking in the neighborhood so I would not suggest the rooms to someone with a car.
Location: The Halsey L is less than two blocks away, which is about 20 minutes from Union Square. There are also several nearby bus lines running towards downtown Brooklyn, but these tend to be rather slow. We are within two blocks of a deli, a couple bars, a coffee shop, and several restaurants. We're within walking distance of lots of stuff in Ridgewood and Bushwick, but our particular corner of the neighborhood is fairly quiet. On weekends, there is a nearby (and very expensive) farmers market and old men set up card tables on the sidewalk to play dominoes.
The Vibe I'm Going For: Tolerant, friendly, community-oriented, arty, bookish, non-pretentious, respectful, communicative. Clean and orderly but not obsessively so. Previous housemates have been academics, social scientists, writers, and artists, and a lot of that vibe remains in the space. We use the TV in the living room for movies and special events (like watching the election) but not for everyday television watching.
Details: The landlord wants new tenants finalized by the end of the month (July), so all deposits and forms need to be submitted by then. I believe that the landlord also requires a security deposit. Move in would be Sept 1 and you would be signing a one year lease with myself and one other person. The landlord doesn't seem particularly strict on credit checks, but you will need to have a job / source of income. The internet costs around $30 each per month, the electricity varies month to month, and I would also like to hire a once a month cleaning service to deep clean the kitchen and bathroom (roughly $30-50 each). Pets may be okay, but you would have to discuss it with the landlord and probably pay them an extra fee. In the past, we've shared and collectively bought essentials / basics like cooking oils and spices and I'd like to keep that going. The outgoing housemates may be open to leaving some furniture, but you'd have to discuss the particulars with them.
You: Kind, fun, dependable, respectful, good with direct communication. Also: not constantly scrolling through a phone app.

If all this sounds good to you, please write me a message with a brief description of yourself, what you're looking for, and what your situation is. Time is kinda short, so I will be trying to arrange interviews ASAP. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!
You would be living with me and one other person like yourself. I work an early morning office job and I am also doing a part time grad school program. I often cook and listen to the radio in the kitchen, usually WFMU or something similar. I like to go out around the neighborhood, read, ride my bike, go see live music, travel, play video games, go out dancing, and go see movies. I'm a night person and I'm usually up pretty late, but most of the time, you won't hear me when I come in. I also work from home two days a week.
* Background Check
* One Year Lease
* Security Deposit
* Employment / Source of Income
Note: These are the landlord's requirements, not mine, so they're not really negotiable.
The landlord may allow for cats, but there would likely be an extra fee.
