Our house is back! After a long term rental followed by some choice renovations, we are finally able to do short term rentals again. Our father built this home in the 1970s and it is a real gem, well-situated in the woods of Bearsville, land of the Lenape-Esopus people, just 5 miles to the center of Woodstock. Featured in the April 2022 edition of Chronogram Magazine. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath including steam room. Thirty-foot cathedral ceilings. (MAX 4 guests!) Fast WiFi, fully equipped newly renovated kitchen. Fireplace. Deep tub with a view of the mountains. Carport. Two fire pits and new patio. The main feature is tremendous set of windows looking out on the deck and stream. Quiet, clean, beautiful, fully furnished, amazing library. This is a place for sitting by the fire, stargazing, rock skipping, writing, recuperating. The house has several steep drops with unsupported banisters that may not be safe for unstable walkers. Enjoy hiking Overlook Mountain, the Ashokan Rail Trail, Wilson State Park, Colgate Lake, the Zen Mountain Monastery is just down the road. Surrounded by five acres of natural forest and wetlands. Walk to Yankee Town Pond. This a sacred space, we have hosted several of the world's most respected Buddhist lamas, who performed purification ceremonies on the property and we value renters who can appreciate how special it is. No partiers please! Though the house seems well suited for large gatherings, we do not rent it out for events. Please respect the cap of four people only. Note: There is no cel service, only wifi. Many see this as a positive. The two downstairs bedrooms and large bath are accessible on the ground floor with one step, primary bedroom and library require stairs. Linens included. 3 day weekend = $1350. Monthly $6500. $120 cleaning fee. Utilities included.
We are brother and sister owners of the house. Our father was an artist and he built it in the early 70s, inspired by his trip to Japan. We spent our summers here watching the walls go up and feeding the goats. We now both work in service of our respective communities as a psychotherapist and teacher.
The house is unique in every way. We've kept the feel of the original house but have made important useful updates. Many people say that the house is one of the most truly 'Woodstocky' houses around. Give your nervous system a well deserved break. Our book collection is also an excellent feature.
Noa (she/her) be your contact and will be available to answer questions during your stay.
We require a refundable damage deposit, copy of valid ID, and a signed lease agreement. There is a $140 cleaning fee. For a full month we have a second cleaning mid-month @$140. You will receive a house A-Z guide with information about the area and operating instructions.
Dogs are allowed but we ask no dogs go into the primary bedroom upstairs (white carpet). And just that pet caregivers are mindful of what the dogs bring into the house. This is a very clean house in the middle of the woods. Cats are not allowed, sorry!
