Neighborhood

Clinton Hill / Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Ground floor two room apartment in Clinton Hill / Fort Greene near Navy Yard with Private Backyard (the sweet cat in pic is a neighborhood colony cat, this is an old pic, he has since passed away). The room for rent is a bedroom with an adjacent room that can be used as an office or sitting space. Or switch the uses… smaller bedroom, and use the larger space as a sitting or chilling area. Currently the room has a full size bed and TV mounted on the wall, small dresser and closet. The adjacent room (while shown empty in the picture) is being used as an office. All of the furniture will be removed before move-in. The apartment has a small kitchen with a dishwasher, gas stove/oven, and full size (but smaller) refrigerator. We have a Berkey Water Filter for drinking water. There’s a cute bathroom that we updated with wood shelves and re-coated the tub, there’s a window that gives decent light for plants. The hot water is amazing. The space is interesting, in that there really is no common area, rather a long hallway for a dining table and a daybed or bench in the entry. All of this furniture will be removed when our current roommate moves. (See pics for current set up) Happy to have your furniture placed in these spaces if it fits. The back room does require a portable AC, as the back window will not allow for a window AC unit.

The rent includes all utilities: electric, gas, heat (which is stellar), hot water, and wifi. The router is in the room for rent. Sorry, NO PETS.

The front room is occupied by a couple who is not at the apartment full time. While we are not at the apartment the door will likely be locked. See more about us below!

We’re looking for a responsible and respectful housemate, someone who is clean and communicative. Ideally, who is comfortable sharing space, not into throwing parties - you’re welcome to have people over to enjoy the backyard. We are looking for short term, but are open to longer if this is the right fit for all of us. We don’t want you to commit to something that doesn’t work for you. Just the same for us.

Who we are: we spend most of our time upstate and like to have a place in Brooklyn for seeing friends or various appointments. We have used Google Calendar in the past with previous roommates and communicate when we will be visiting, and for how long, to be as considerate as possible. We typically go to the apartment 1-2 times per month, sometimes less, sometimes more - depending on what’s going on with our lives. We aren’t big partiers and don’t want our housemate to be either. While we love the backyard and having folks over to hang in the warmer months - we try to be respectful of our neighbors and keep the noise down. The apartment and building are managed by a Management Company - so any issues would need to go through us: again communication is key!

Neighborhood: super residential street with a Key Foods minutes away, lots of bars / shops / restaurants nearby. There’s a laundromat a quick walk away. Parking is fairly easy if you have a car. Fort Greene Park is maybe a 10-15min walk. The nearest train is about 12min walk - the G.

About This Lister

I am an End of Life Doula and Reiki Master, and a Corporate Citizen who works from home, so when I am at the apartment during the weekdays - I’ll be on my laptop in work meetings, and popping in and out of the room to get coffee or food. My partner is a freelance photographer and furniture builder. We spend most of our time out of Brooklyn. When we are there - it’s typically separate. But we do spend time at the apartment together as well. So we can hang out with friends, or go to appointments, do work, etc…

I like things tidy and neat. And am very comfortable with sharing, take my last egg - just replace it! Use the rest of my laundry detergent - replace it! I try to be as communicative as possible and appreciate the same in a housemate, it’s better to talk about any issues or concerns before they become something bigger. We enjoy watching TV, cooking dinner, hanging outside when it’s nice out, and going to diners for breakfast. We are a “take your shoes off” household - the streets of NYC of dirty!

Who we are looking for: respectful, friendly, open, considerate, tidy and clean, communicative person who is fine to be on their own or to themselves. We don’t need to become best friends, but would be cool to hang out too! As we don’t want to have weird interactions either! If you are out 7 nights a week: good for you! As long as you are respectful of the space, and quiet when you come home (if we are there) we good!

Rental requirements

Would love at least three references - friends, previous housemates, colleagues, anyone that can vouch for who you are.
Would like to know that you are employed whether self or otherwise - we need to know money isn’t an issue.

For a short term lease: nothing required other than a signed document stating that you are subletting. A small deposit may be asked of you; especially if you are considering painting anything or hanging things on the wall. We can discuss!

One of us will be able to show the room. We will just need to align to make time. Email me and we can work to find times that either myself or my partner can meet. Right now there is furniture in the rooms until our roommate moves out be 2/15. Open to move in anytime after 2/16.

You would pay rent to us directly. Zelle or cash is fine.
