My name is Jorgie, and I’m a mid-20’s artist, writer, and executive assistant who has lived in NYC for three years and in Philly prior. I moved to nyc for work opportunities as a dancer, and have stayed because I love it (for many reasons), and I hope to continue building a home here.
I’m looking for housing beginning between now and July. My current lease ends at the end of June, but I’d be open to leaving earlier if the right opportunity arises! I’m looking for one of a few possibilities:
- A roommate or roommates to search with, or who have an open room available (more about this below), closer to June.
- A studio or one-bedroom apartment that is a rent-stabilized or an affordable unit (ideal!)
- An apartment or home that is empty most of the year, or an empty floor/room in your home in exchange for a living situation barter; perhaps you need someone to take in your mail, keep it tidy, manage & be there for household vendors, and keep the pipes warm, arrange some flowers and order groceries for your arrival. I could be your girl!
More about me:
I like to watch the way the sun casts shadows through trees, how it glimmers on water, and a hot cup of tea. I like a slow, quiet morning, good films, and art that moves me. I love pets, though I don’t have any of my own. I prioritize clear communication, kindness, a clean space, and slowing down.
My current budget for a room or an apartment:
Around $1200 or less.
A note about the last bullet point:
I’ve worked as a house manager before, and although I don’t have the capacity to take on a full role like that for a family that is consistently in their home, I’d be happy to take on something super flexible and part-time for a living situation barter. This could look like: you have an empty guest bedroom or floor of your home and you need someone to water plants, tend to a garden, tidy, take care of your mail, make sure the fridge is stocked for when you return, and meet household vendors that may need to come.
More about how I live:
In my own space, I like to keep things very clean - wiping down counters after I cook, making sure dishes are cleaned 95% of the time after I use them (with the occasional teacup in the sink overnight, or pan left in the sink while I have a virtual meeting), deep cleaning the bathroom & floors every week or two, and taking off shoes at the door.
In the last year and a half or so, I’ve been diagnosed with post-viral POTS from long COVID. This has drastically altered how I live, and I’m currently working with many doctors and specialists to find what might be able to help me recover some and get back to a better baseline. But mostly, I’m home most of the time (aside from heading to appointments and a ~ daily walk) and work 100% remotely. Some days and weeks are pretty good, some are pretty bad, and I have to mostly stick to being horizontal. This also means I take as many precautions as possible to avoid getting sick, as that could also cause my symptoms to get worse. It’s important to me that I live with folks who are on board with taking precautions in communal spaces (taking flu/covid tests if you’re feeling sick, wearing a mask in the common spaces if you’re sick - even just a cold - and openly communicating about these things). Of course, I’ll do the same as well.
It’s important to me that my home space feels safe, welcoming, and comfortable.
Ideally, this space has in-building washer/dryer, and would love natural light. Unfurnished is ideal, but I’m open to furnished as well.
Open to anywhere that has reasonable access to public transportation, and has somewhat reasonable access to a park or natural space (the closer the better!).
If any of this feels like it could be a good fit, please reach out!
I’m an artist and executive assistant, practicing as a photographer and writer. I worked as a professional dancer before the onset of POTS, and still think about things choreographically and somatically, where I can.
Right now, I like a lot of quiet and slowness. I like things to be somewhat predictable in my space, and I like clarity.
Most of my life right now includes focusing on my health & tinkering with what works for me, working as an executive assistant, finding awe and wonder in little things, and writing.
