Huron Station Playhouse is seeking a proactive problem solver and detail-oriented leader to serve as its Interim Executive Director (IED). This role will be instrumental in leading the organization through a pivotal year of growth and infrastructure development as we move towards our first full-scale stage production in early 2026. This interim leader will be charged with building foundational systems, mentoring our talented team, and positioning us for sustainable success. We're looking for someone who can teach while doing, establishing everything from financial processes to production workflows.

The IED will focus primarily on building internal infrastructure—creating clarity and accountability across departments through systems for operations, finance, calendars, workflows, and cross-team communication. This role is ideal for a nonprofit theater professional with experience in transitional leadership, organizational development, and arts administration. Our core values and workplace culture are built on a foundation of community, collaboration, kindness, and the pursuit of artistic excellence. We’re also interested in having fun when possible.

- Collaborate with staff to define roles, responsibilities, and decision-making structures.

- Work with a bookkeeper or accountant to ensure consistent, transparent financial reporting. Review current bookkeeping and accounting practices; propose and implement upgrades where needed.

- Develop timelines and protocols for audits, tax filings, grant applications, and grant reporting.

- Theater Production Planning and Execution Guiding Huron Station Playhouse through preparations and the execution of stage plays and events, including fall readings and the first full stage production in early 2026.

- Implementing systems to navigate Equity concerns, casting processes, and production timeline management.

- Create and maintain a budget for in-house productions.

- Assist with hiring and onboarding producers for any Huron productions. Cultivating creative financing models for on-stage productions at Huron.

Board Engagement & Strategic Planning

- Partner with the Board of Directors to align short-term operations goals with long-term strategic priorities.

- Provide regular updates on progress toward infrastructure goals.

- Assist the Board in preparing for the recruitment and onboarding of a future permanent Executive Director.

- Assessing the needs of the board, board seats that should be added, and assisting in the process of onboarding new board members.

- Assist the Board Treasurer with creating a sustainable budget for theater operations and overseeing the balancing of that budget.

Team & Culture Leadership

- Serve as a supportive manager to current staff, providing leadership clarity and structured workflows.

- Build a culture of transparency, documentation, and accountability while preserving the theater's collaborative spirit.

- Oversee the hiring process for and onboarding the Head of Development, including but not limited to assessing the theater’s needs, outlining the role, and defining pay structure.

- Reliable, prompt, and considerate communication

- Clear systematic thinking and excellent organizational skills

- Deep understanding of theater infrastructure needs

Compensation & Terms

- This is a contract position for a term of 8 to 9 months pending extension.
- Time Commitment: Part-time (in-person presence is expected)

About Us

Huron Station Playhouse is a non-profit theater recently founded by actor/director Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ironheart) to create an elevated, intimate theater venue for the east side of Los Angeles!

In a gorgeous historic trolley substation built in 1906, Huron is working to provide a space for the cutting-edge plays of today, mainly work from the last 20 years that we believe to be timely and powerful. Huron is not only a theater venue but also a creative watering hole for its community in Cypress Park and the greater Los Angeles arts community.

LA is home to countless artists, many of whom struggle to break into the industry without community support to nurture and protect their artistic voice. This is why Huron hosts writer's groups, readings that allow writers to hear their work out loud and for actors to showcase their talents, concerts, talks, and interviews with leaders in the entertainment industry, and other community gatherings.
