Technology for Artists is IT support built for the reality of a creative practice. I provide remote sessions via Zoom to help artists get their digital lives under control. This includes taming a decade of scattered image files, building a backup system you actually trust, or troubleshooting the software glitches that keep you out of your studio.
I specialize in the things general IT often misses, like massive file sizes, messy desktops, and the need for systems that grow with your work. Beyond just fixing problems, I am passionate about teaching you the skills to manage your own systems. My ultimate goal is to not be needed anymore because you feel confident tackling your own tech.
What to expect: We always start with a free 30 minute consultation to see if we are a good match. From there, we can book one-off hour sessions or set up weekly meetings for larger projects.
Rates: My standard rate is $55 per hour. I am committed to making this accessible, so I offer a discounted rate for very emerging artists.
I’m Becs Epstein, an artist and tech specialist based in Chicago. I grew up in Silicon Valley and have since lived and worked in Philly, Pittsburgh, and NYC before landing here.
I’m motivated by the idea that your digital workspace should be as intentional as your physical studio. I know how frustrating it is when the tools meant to help you become a barrier. I’m here to make tech feel approachable and useful, not a source of judgment. I love the moment of relief when a client realizes they don’t have to fear their own computer. I want to get you back into the studio with the confidence to handle whatever your digital practice requires. I work with artists across the country via Zoom, and I treat your digital archive with the same respect you give your physical work.
My approach is grounded in over a decade of technical training and a deep involvement in the arts. I hold a BFA from Carnegie Mellon in Sculptural Installation and Physical Computing and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I currently teach Digital Fabrication.
I started this business after I saw a standard IT person fail to grasp how vital high-resolution image backups are for an artist. He overcharged the artist and didn't even fix the core issue. I stepped in and fixed it in 20 minutes. That moment made it clear that artists need tech support that actually understands their medium.
Because I’m a practicing artist myself, I understand that creative work is rarely linear. I’ve spent years helping artists at every career stage, from emerging residents to established studios, set up robust data migrations, recover "lost" files, and design workflows that actually fit their brains. I provide practical, customized support that honors how you actually work. I continually take new certifications in emerging technology, including AI, so I can help artists navigate and understand the changing digital landscape.
