Hi all! I'm moving back to the city for a new job and am looking for either a room or a studio or 1BD apartment, whichever is easier (and, well, cheaper, let's be honest). I can be in NYC as early as December 1st, will be there full-time December 14th, with job first day on the 15th. Unfortunately I'm currently in Rhode Island, so my availability to come look at apartments is limited (not ideal, I know).
Preference for places in Queens: I'm going to be working in LIC but have no desire to live there, so bonus points for Ridgewood/Astoria/Sunnyside/Elmhurst/Woodside (I lived in Ridgewood for 8 years, it got trendy while I was there but I'd still move back). Brooklyn is also doable.
Pets: I have a cat, who can stay with my parents if necessary, but if I'm somewhere for a length of time I'd rather bring her with me. She's very sweet and well-behaved but also extremely shy, and unfortunately has to be the only cat. I don't know how she is with dogs, but my guess is she'll be scared.
Budget: Hoping to keep it around $1500-$1800 max, I have an idea of how much I'll make a month but I'm still guessing about deductions and benefits.
Unfurnished preferred.
If any other apartment hunters want to go in on a place together, I'm also open to that!
Thanks for reading my novel of a post!
Late thirties cis-female (she/her). Formerly a stagehand, now a librarian. Generally shy but sociable with people I know, and do best in living situations with similar. Non-smoker, no drugs. Clean in shared spaces, but also sometimes you don't have time to wash the dishes after breakfast, y'know? (Also sometimes there's just cat litter in weird places, it gets stuck in her feet and goes for a walk.) Generally hang out with my friends out and about, maybe once in a blue moon someone comes over for dinner. There's no WFH option with my job, but I have freelance gigs I do in the evenings, so if I'm not social it's because I'm still busy. Outside of work I love to read and write (I originally left the city to get an MFA), and I train circus arts. IG handle below if that helps.
