I’m launching an independent women’s clothing line based on original designs I’ve made and sewn myself (vibe is comfy, sexy, cool). I’ve already received written interest from stores and am now moving from samples to small-batch production.
I’m looking for a part-time, hands-on production partner to help me figure out manufacturing and scale thoughtfully. This is an early-stage, build-from-scratch role. You’ll be involved in real decisions, not just admin.
What You’ll Help With
- Touring and evaluating local garment factories in Manhattan
- Researching and vetting out-of-state factories for small production runs
- Helping narrow down manufacturing partners based on quality, pricing, and fit for a young brand
-Working with factories on:
--Technical patterns and production specs
--Grading and prep for small runs
--Coordinating with sewists
-Testing fabric commerciability:
--Wash and wear tests
--Shrinkage, durability, and consistency
- Helping manage early production timelines and first retail orders
- Generally helping turn “this works as a handmade piece” into “this works as a product”
Who This Is For
This role is intentionally flexible. You could be:
- Someone with fashion production or manufacturing experience
- Someone early in their career who is hungry, curious, and wants to learn how production actually works
- Someone interested in starting their own line someday and wants real exposure
- Someone who likes figuring things out, asking questions, and being in the room where decisions are made
Direct experience is a plus, not a requirement. I am self-taught and care more about judgment, follow-through, and curiosity than credentials.
Logistics
Part-time: ~5–10 hours per week to start
Some weeks may be lighter or heavier depending on factory visits
Prefer NYC-based candidates for in-person factory touring
Hourly pay, commensurate with experience, minimum $35/hour
Flexible schedule
Opportunity to grow with the brand if it’s a fit
