Furnished room in lower Washington Heights available for rent, all utilities included. Light-filled garden-level space. Artfully decorated and neat large living room and dining area. Cat in the apartment. One bathroom, one kitchen. Shower, tub, reverse-osmosis filtered water. This is a TV-free space (an artist's apartment). No dishwasher or laundry, though coin laundry is available a few doors down (1 min walk). No super on-site. Compost and recycling in the apartment.

I prefer a quiet space (silent reading over listening to podcasts or music played outloud), but am happy to co-host dinner parties or potentially buy a record player or projector. I am out of the house from 7:45 am to 5 pm or later M-F, and home during the weekends. I prefer very quiet mornings so that I can write. There is no smoking, whether weed or cigarettes. I don't drink much, and hope that you won't drink too much either. I also don't cook much meat or fried food, and hope to keep the kitchen smells to a minimum. I avoid chemical smells of any kind, and use natural cleaning products, etc. I'm very environmentally conscious and wouldn't vibe well with someone constantly ordering Uber Eats or take-out, and stuffing the little plastic forks into our silverware drawer, or ordering lots and lots of packages from Amazon. I use air conditioning as little as possible and often have the windows cracked for the cat to enjoy the air. I am neat, and I sweep as often as I can, but I have been known to leave dishes in the sink.

The neighborhood is Dominican-dominant, with lots of street life especially east of Broadway, but our area is quieter and close to the river and the river path (great for bike commuters, runners, tennis players, basketball players, and more). The closest bars are Penny Jo's and the cluster of nightlife around Harlem Public. You will be closest to the 157th Street 1 train. Cross-streets are 160th and Riverside Drive.

I need a roommate who looks good on paper -- financials, clean background check -- because my landlord does not play. Rent is due to me via Venmo on the 30th or 31st preceding each month. No security deposit. We can have a discussion if you have either kids or pets.

I also have a preference for someone who is interested in co-living to some extent, and who wants to build a relationship with my pet and is willing to take over cat-care duties when I am out of town.

There is an outdoor space, also!

About This Lister

I'm 33 years old, a she/her, a middle school English teacher, a writer, a cat mom (hoping to be a human mom someday soon), an aunt, a midwesterner (Minnesota), who has lived in this space for over two years, and NYC for about four. I like to run and workout (lift weights, sometimes at home). I get a farm share that runs through Novemeber. I am leftist. I have a degree in Gender and Sexuality Studies and an MFA in Writing. I love to discuss literature and books. I cook to the degree necessary. I drink coffee every morning, and use lamps for lighting at night (very much prefer to avoid using overhead lighting in the space!).

While welcoming you as my roommate, I would continue to hold decision-making power in the space, i.e. deciding when I may move out of the space, or asking you to move out of the space (guaranteed through Jan 3, but not longer if it isn't working), and I would communicate openly as these plans developed.

Lister's Relationship to the Space

Rental requirements

You should be prepared to submit proof of income that shows you can cover the rent, as well as a government-issued ID.

Pets Policy

I have a cat, so we'd need to discuss your pet situation to see if there is any way to make it shake!
