This beautiful, bright, light-filled room is on the second floor of our co-housing home. Your room is fully furnished and features two huge windows with original, period stained glass, a queen-sized bed, a large closet, warm lighting, a small desk, and a 40” smart TV. Enjoy two shared baths, a huge, newly remodeled kitchen with two separate sinks, a truly massive great room, and a secluded backyard with mature oak trees and a coastal redwood. We also have a grill and picnic tables for you to use. You can see the lake, which is about 400 feet away, from atop the turret!
We bought this house because we wanted to live close to all our favorite parts of the Bay Area - the Lake, Downtown Oakland, Piedmont, Temescal, Rockridge, Berkeley, and San Francisco. We couldn’t believe we were able to find such a large, quiet and secluded lot so close to the Lake. The Lake is a culture unto itself, with BBQs, picnics, salsa dancing, lakeside runners, roller skaters, vendors, and walkers. Such a vibrant scene often comes at the cost of some noise, but we are tucked up the hill and setback from the Lake and get surprisingly little noise.
The area is a gourmand’s dream. We are walking distance to some of the best food neighborhoods in the Bay, including the trendy cafes, wine bars, co-op bakeries, juice shops, and restaurants on Grand and Lakeshore, the incredible southeast asian cuisine in Clinton, the upscale new-school and old-school dining on Piedmont, the fast-changing scene in Downtown and Uptown Oakland, some of the best Mexican and Guatemalan food in the country in Fruitvale, and some of the darlings of global journalism (including one of Bon Apetit’s top-ten new restaurants in the country) in Rockridge and Temescal. A 15-minute BART ride takes you to the food offerings in Berkeley and San Francisco, where the food options are endless.
The home is a gorgeous Victorian that gets a ton of light through its big windows. This is truly an architectural masterpiece with parts of the house designed by Julia Morgan, the architect of the Hearst Castle and one of the pioneers of the Arts and Crafts movement. You’ll enjoy coved ceilings, original crown moldings, stained glass, hardwood floors throughout, and gorgeous built-ins. It has a large, modern kitchen with two sinks on either side of the kitchen space to ease any congestion. As you can probably tell from the description, we love food! This kitchen is fully stocked with a Vitamix, Kitchen Aid stand mixer, Cuisinart food processor, burr grinder, French press, V60 pour over, Breville Juicer, and lots more.
The property has mature oaks, a redwood tree, fruit trees, a massive front yard and side yard (with a patio) and a magical secluded garden patio with a grill and patio furniture.
There is free street parking, but we also offer gated and covered parking off-street parking (when available) for an additional $250/month per spot. I live here with my sweet dog and I have my own bathroom, so you won’t be sharing with me. Great option for travel nurses, digital nomads, students and those in life transitions who want to explore the sunny side of the Bay! Current guests are all women who work in education and non-profits, plus me (a woman who works in the beer industry) and my sweet dog.
I (she/her) am a former academic (16th & 17th Century English Lit - dead white dudes!) turned brewer. I started a brewery with my brother back in 2017 and we now have two Bay Area locations. I love all things outdoors - backpacking, trail running, skiing, MTB, kayaking, etx. I live here with my sweet dog and I have my own bathroom, so you won’t be sharing with me. I am a neat freak in common areas, and I do my best to keep the space tidy for my other housemates. Current housemates are two women who work in education and non-profits. My sweet dog lives with us, and he is pathologically social.
$55 background check and credit check and $1000 security deposit. $60/month for common area cleanings. Utilities are split. This room is for a single person.
