Furnished private living room and bedroom with private entrance in charming, quirky (see floorplan) 2BR share at Bergen St. and Flatbush Ave., move-in ready, available now.
The apartment is very sunny, with elegant high ceilings and hardwood floors throughout, and you have your own separate entrance. Great share layout. (Lots of privacy if you want it—we each could be home and the other might not know it.) I’m looking for a mature, simpatico housemate who can afford the rent, appreciates the architectural details (e.g., solid-wood doors, tin ceilings in kitchen and dining room/office) and will treat the apt. like a shared home. I like a friendly, easy sort of camaraderie with a housemate. Happy to give you your space, but also happy to offer support, e.g., with logistical stuff when you just need another human, to pick up something at the store, to water your plants when you're away. (And if you’re new-ish to Brooklyn, or New York, I’m a good resource for info and tips.)
Your living room has a big L-shaped desk and good desk chair, small desk drawer unit, two leather armchairs, coffee table, small chest, rug, a couple of plants, an empty bookshelf, and several bookshelves with lots of books. And there’s still room to add some of your own things/your own decor, to make it yours. (I also have a bunch of stored, interesting wall-hangings for you to choose from, if you like.)
Your bedroom has an exposed brick wall, comfy queen bed with linens/blankets and towels if you need, large dresser and shelf tower. (Some décor--bedspread, wall hanging--has changed from the photo.) You also have a built-in closet across from the bathroom (you can see it in the background in the dining room/office photo).
Shared dining room/office has a big table if you want to have friends to dinner, and you can work there, too. Shared bathroom, just replastered and painted last week, has built-in cabinet, skylight, good water pressure, full-size tub. The kitchen has an eat-in counter, dishwasher, Nespresso, microwave, gas stove: well equipped for cooking (of which I do very little, so have at it!).
Two flights up, only one other apt. in the building, lovely neighbors downstairs (their cats will come visit if you like).
Location, location, location. You're paying not only for civilized living in a space with great character, but also for the incredibly convenient location next to Bergen St 2,3--one stop away from Atlantic Av/Barclays 2,3,4,5,B,D,N,Q,R,&LIRR. 15-20 mins to downtown Manhattan; equally easy up the east or west side of Manhattan: change at Nevins St from 2,3 to 4,5–on the same platform!
Short walks to Prospect Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum of Art, BAM, Apple Store, Barclays Center, Park Slope Food Coop, farmer’s market, library, Union Market, 24-hr drugstore, hardware store, several gyms, Atlantic Center Mall (Target, Best Buy, Uniqlo, supermarket, etc.). Laundromat/ drop-off one block away, police precinct half a block away.
Lively area, right on Flatbush Ave, surrounded by all manner of other shops, performance venues (e.g., Union Hall, the Bell House, Barbes, the Branded Saloon)--and restaurants? Name your desired cuisine! Virtually any kind you could want, along with several good coffee places and bars, all in walking distance, in Park Slope and Prospect Heights.
Terrific central location, close to all of these neighborhoods, too: Crown Heights, Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Gowanus, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Windsor Terrace, Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo.
I’m a mature, queer, friendly, female editor. Prefer 40+. I've lived with many different housemates for decades--since college--so I'm flexible and considerate.
I love art, architecture, languages, literature, music, politics, sociology, psychology, etc. (and you’re welcome to my books). I've done a lot of nonprofit work in the past, mostly for small arts, education or human rights orgs, and give a lot of time to a retreat center in CT that I'm on the board of. I do my editing work from home, sometimes in the shared dining room/office, sometimes in my own space, with odd, variable hours.
Morning person, usually in bed by 10 or 11. Often at the gym in the late morning, otherwise in and out. Frequent traveler, away about one week per month. I’m pretty clean, esp. in the kitchen & bathroom, would like the same, and like to keep things organized. I like good communication, e.g., each giving the other a heads-up for scheduling/any need-to-knows, e.g., “Going out of town next week,” or “Are you home later? Expecting a delivery.” I’m also fine if you have houseguests.
Your rent is $2600 plus utilities. (Days in March will be prorated.) One month’s security deposit.
I adore big dogs, but the landlord allows max. 15 lbs., unless s/he is a service animal. Cats ok if we can keep them from shredding the armchairs.
