The Story: A long-time NYC art community member needs our help. A 38-year-old visual artist (MFA Yale) and painting professor, she recently suffered a traumatic fall resulting in a broken vertebra and a spinal cord injury.
She is currently in acute rehabilitation, regaining strength after losing sensation in her legs. To ensure a safe recovery, she urgently needs wheelchair-accessible housing upon her discharge.
The Needs: We are seeking a furnished 1 or 2-bedroom apartment for approximately 6 months. This artist is an extremely clean, responsible tenant who needs a quiet, private space to focus on her rehabilitation. She will have a caretaker staying with her for periods of time.
Move-in: Feb 1 - Feb 15.
Location: Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens, close to accessible public transportation.
Accessibility (Strict Requirement): Must be an elevator building or ground-floor access.
Interior: Must have wide doorways/open layout to accommodate a wheelchair (newer construction often works best).
Budget: Seeking $2,000/month max. Given the high medical costs, a donated sublet or community rate would be a profound gift.
Visual artist and painting professor, 38, she/her. Currently recovering from a spinal cord injury and will need wheelchair-accessible housing upon discharge from rehab in early February. I'm quiet, clean, and respectful of space, I just need a calm place to heal. A caretaker will be with me at times. Deeply grateful for any help.
